Beetroot and the Cretan Bowl Diet…

This Beetroot Page is from the Cretan Bowl Diet website that offers slimming advice and information to help you lose weight.

Based on the Cretan diet and cousin of the Mediterranean diet the diet plan can help you achieve your healthy shape and weight.

Beetroot is grown here in Crete and is part of the traditional Cretan Diet. Beet is sold on the farmers markets throughout Crete and is incredibly good value.

The Cretans leave nothing to waste and use the whole of the beetroot in their cooking, including the root, stems and leaves. What is not eaten is used in folklore medicine as a scalp cleanser.

Beetroot is an excellent source of Vitamin B9. Vitamin B9 has strong evidence that it reduces the risk of developing cancer, cardiovascular disease and defects in unborn children.

Vitamin B9 has forms named Folate and Folic Acid. Folate occurs naturally in fresh foods, whereas Folic Acid is the synthetic form found in supplements. The body needs Folate to produce red blood cells, as well as components of the nervous system.

It helps maintaining normal brain function, and is a critical part of spinal fluid. Folic Acid is vital for proper cell growth and development of the embryo, so it is important for women to have enough Folate/Folic Acid in their bodies both before and during pregnancy.

The deep rich purple colour of beet is also an indicator of the potent health benefits of this vegetable, as it is generally believed that the more intense a colour the greater the health benefits.

Eating beetroot can not only add vitamins and minerals to your diet and help you lose weight but can also make you feel sexy too.

The ancient Greeks and Romans believed the beetroot to be an aphrodisiac. Beetroot is a rich source of the mineral boron, which is important in the production of human sex hormones.

Folklore tales claim that if a man and woman eat from the same beet they will instantly fall in love.

Beetroot is most certainly one of the vegetables on the Cretan Bowl diet food list as it is both delicious and low in calories that can help you lose weight.
