We hear so much debate about growing obesity, especially in children.

At the same time we are bombarded with the size zero ‘perfection’ that the celebrity world of models and Hollywood have us believe is what we should be aiming for.

At one extreme we have anorexics putting their health and life in jeopardy by starving themselves and at the other end of the scale we have overeaters destroying their bodies with junk food.

Neither the obese person nor the anorexic person is HEALTHY!

A healthy shape and weight that is right for the individual is what we should be aspiring to.

Health should be first and foremost, shape and weight come second.

CANNOT CHANGE YOUR SHAPE
Let’s examine shape to start with. You can go on a slimming diet any number of times to lose excess weight but your basic body shape can never change.

Look at Olympic athletes, perfect specimens of healthy bodies. Each and everyone is at their optimum healthiest for their event – they are in the ‘best possible shape’.

So what is the perfect shape? The petite, dainty gymnast? The toned, lithe marathon runner? The muscular, strong shot putter?

They all are of course!

There are of course many different body types around. But the scientists tell us there are three main categories.

  • Ectomorphs - thin and willowy
  • Mesomorphs - athletic and muscular
  • Endomorphs - generously rounded or 'chunky'

Mother nature gives us our basic shape and there isn’t much you can do about it.

Just as the shot putter could not pirouette gracefully in a gymnastic contest or the marathon runner could not take gold for weight lifting, then why try to be the winner of a race you should never be in?

If your basic shape is that of an Endomorph, face the fact that you will never be a stick insect, no matter how many diets you try or how much exercise you do.

Similarly if you have the given Ectomorph shape you will never achieve Marilyn Monroe curves no matter what you do.

Accept your basic body shape and make it as healthy and strong as you can by eating a nutritious diet and exercising sensibly.
