Olives and the Cretan Bowl Diet…

There are thousands upon thousands of olive trees in Crete with many varieties of this delicious fruit. Made from the natural juice of the olive, olive oil is truly a precious “elixir” of life, and helps the people of the Island of Crete maintain health and long life, as well as enjoying delicious food!

Olives are an excellent source of Vitamin E.

Vitamin E is important as an antioxidant, thereby protecting body tissue from the damage of oxidation. It is important in the formation of red blood cells and the use of Vitamin K.

Olives also contain Copper and Iron.

Copper is needed for the absorption, storage and metabolism of iron and the formation of red blood cells. It also helps supply oxygen to the body.

Iron deficiency can be a problem for infants, adolescent girls and pregnant women. Deficiency can also affect the immune system and cause weakness and fatigue.
